Who are we?
The Fondation Médéric Alzheimer, created in August 1999, is recognized as a public service for its commitment to helping carers of people suffering from Alzheimer’s disease or age related disorders. Whether they are home, voluntary or professional carers, the Foundation underlines their importance in taking care of ill people, encouraging and emphasizing concrete solutions in aid and in social study research.
Endowed at its creation with 76,225 million euros, the foundation has a yearly budget of about 2.3 million euros allowing it to take an active role with home carers organized in associations and with organisations and authorities that develop strategies and programs to help carers. It identifies the needs and encourages innovating practices. As an expert centre, it reproduces information collected by different specialists, thanks, in particular, to its publications, press reviews and sensitising a large public through seminars.
The Foundation has set up a national and international Watchdog, which identifies ideas and practices concerning people suffering from Alzheimer disease and their carers in France and abroad, but also to list existing offers. Doing so, it can support and request studies and research on the medical-social consequences of the disease, encourage research in human sciences and society by awarding prizes and grants.
The Foundation finances and supports local initiatives. As of September 1st, 2003, ninety-two projects have been assisted. These projects are selected through a call to tender. This support not only results in financial aid but also by helping the teams at the development stage of the project and its implementation.
Helping carers, for the Fondation Médéric Alzheimer, also means putting all its knowledge and experience at the disposal of the largest number of people and encouraging meetings and exchanges between project authors, social study researchers and decision-makers.
